Brecon Beacon Railway
Well, we had to have one wet day, and this was it, it poured down
most of the time we were in Wales, but did this curtail our enthusiasm any, yes.
But after a super picnic, we jumped on board the welsh express looking forward to a journey of
wonder and spectacular views along miles and miles of narrow gauge railway
track through the Brecon Beacons National Park.
I stood outside the front of our carriage and watched as the
welsh engine driver connected
our carriage to the steam train, on completion I said
to him “there’s lovely”, expecting this to be a
welsh type compliment, but got a daggers look from him, anyway off we went, chuff chuff lovely, but a mile and a half up the track, it stopped and went back again, stopping for 20
minutes outside a cafe, hmm, lovely train, it just didn’t go anywhere, but it was
fun, and I think we all enjoyed it, I
did.
The train could only accommodate five wheelchair users so we took it in turns to go on the train, the second group were joined by a gaggle of
dignitaries as five local mayors from the surrounding area took a trip on the train as well, which is why there is a picture of them below. Each mayor
was driven in their own limousine, with driver, and as the five drivers left to pick up their vehicles, I commented that they resembled to Welsh mafia, that nearly got me shot too.
Safely back on the coach we headed back to
England, then the sun came out, typical, nice day though.
