Outing to Brooklands Motor/Aircraft
“Museum” near Cobham in Surrey
The Wheelchair accessible coach set off from
Worthing at 10 am and reached Brooklands
about 1 ½ hours later. Unfortunately
because of holidays and hospital
appointments etc. we had several
cancellations and the coach was only half
full, but still a lovely ride through the
countryside.
We were met by a very kind helpful staff and
ushered into the welcome hall for a 20
minute introduction and history of the
Museum, which is situated at the original
Brooklands Racing Circuit built in the early
1900s and amazingly part of the very very
steep banking is still there.
The exhibits are housed in
large warehouses containing early aeroplanes
and even a wellington bomber, antique cars
and famous racing cars and motor bikes.
Outside there were seven or eight aeroplanes
including one of the original Concordes,
a VC10 and quite a “small” looking Harrier
jump jet ! A most interesting day. I
travelled by car with Robin and family and
on the way back through the country roads of
Surrey commented that the Fellowship used to
own a residential home in this area,
somewhere near Cobham. Then surprise
surprise just as I finished that story we
saw a sign pointing to a house “SILVERWOOD
LODGE” It really couldn’t have been the
same place – Could it ??
